Webb City scored eight runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as the Cardinals topped the Mustangs 14-9 in varsity baseball action at McDonald County High School on Monday.
The Mustangs (11-10) fought back, but to no avail. They answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, two in the third and four in the fifth to cut it to 10-9. The Cardinals, however, put it away with four insurance runs in the top of the sixth.
Mason York and Jake Wood had two hits for the Mustangs, while Cooper Underwood, Zack Peck, Cooper Dill, Trenton Frazier, Drey Fickle and Trevor Young also had hits. Frazier and Fickle both had two RBIs, while Dill, York and Young had one. York added a double.
The Mustangs are back in action at Carl Junction at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
