  • Patriots drop pair of Big 8 games to Cassville, Monett this week

  • The East Newton Patriots dropped two Big 8 Conference games in as many days as they fell to Cassville 10-0 in six innings on Wednesday and Monett 16-4 on Thursday.

  • The East Newton Patriots dropped two Big 8 Conference games in as many days as they fell to Cassville 10-0 in six innings on Wednesday and Monett 16-4 on Thursday.
    Sam Swartz took the loss on Wednesday against the Wildcats. He exited the game trailing 6-0, despite allowing just two earned runs on six hits in three innings of work.
    Rocky Liveoak led the Patriots with two hits and a stolen base, while Swartz, Ryan Linton and Cody Jordan also had a hit.
    On Thursday the Patriots were cruising through four innings until the wheels fell off late.
    Payton Powell started on the mound for the Patriots and held the Cubs scoreless through four innings with four strikeouts, five hits and six walks.
    The Cubs, however, struck for five runs in the fifth inning, two in the sixth and nine more in the seventh to take control.
    Dillon Bunch lined an RBI single to score Swartz with the game’s first run in the first inning to make it 1-0 East Newton. Liveoak doubled to drive in Jordan in the second and Wyatt Hurn followed with a two-run double to center to score Powell and Liveoak to give the Patriots a 4-0 lead.
    Liveoak finished with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored to lead East Newton. Hurn finished with a double and two RBIs, Swartz had a hit and a stolen base, Bunch had a hit, stole a base and drove in a run and Dustin Letts had a single.
    The Patriots (11-11) entertain Sarcoxie at 5 p.m. today.
