  • After earning the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye at the NJCAA Region 16 Tournament in Columbia, Mo., the Crowder Lady ‘Riders made a splash in their opening game of the double-elimination tourney on Friday as they whipped the No. 3 seed, Three Rivers, 8-0 in five innings at Battle High School.
The Lady ‘Riders (37-16) wasted no time in getting on gaining the edge as they plated three runs in the first and four in the second to grab an early 7-0 lead. Meanwhile, pitchers Allison Tonyan and Madison Barnes were nails on the mound as the duo combined on a one-hitter.
Tonyan, who started and earned the win, allowed the only hit and walked a batter. Barnes threw a perfect fifth.
Jessica Neely opened the game with a single to center and went to second on a fly ball. Carson Forge then walked to put runners at first and third before Morgan Coleman lined a two-out triple to left to drive both Neely and Forge home to make it 2-0. Shyanne Nichols followed with a single to shortstop to make it 3-0.
Andrea Drake led off Crowder’s second with a single, Alexis Navarro reached on a bunt and Neely was hit by pitch to load the bases with no outs. Three Rivers starter Sharon Bishop then walked Shelby Stuck to make it 4-0.
Following a lineout, Neosho native Brooke Hulsey singled to left to drive in Navarro and Neely to make it 6-0. That finished Bishop, who was lifted for reliever Taylor Friend who promptly walked Coleman to load the bases with one out. Nichols drove home Stuck on a grounder to second before Three Rivers managed to escape the inning.
The Lady ‘Riders mounted another threat in the fifth when Kala Crisp doubled with one out and went to third when Drake reached on an error. Navarro then singled to shortstop to score Crisp and end the game.
Navarro finished with two hits, an RBI and a run scored to lead the team, while Drake, Crisp, Nichols, Coleman, Hulsey, Forge and Neely also had hits. Hulsey, Coleman and Nichols each finished with two RBIs, while Stuck had one.
