  • The weather wasn’t perfect, but the Neosho Lady Wildcats were on Thursday.
In perhaps their best performance of the season, the Lady Wildcats flat dominated the Webb City Lady Cardinals at Lions Field and cruised to a 5-0 victory.
Want to know how good the Lady Wildcats were? Their defense didn’t even allow a shot on goal. They simply dominated.
“We played close to our best game tonight,” Neosho coach Steve Schnackenberg said. “I thought communication was key, especially the first half. The girls have really worked hard on being at our strongest at the end of the season and they looked like they are doing that.”
Whether it showed up in the scoring logs or not, each player on the pitch contributed to Neosho’s win. They strung passes together and kept pressure on Webb City’s defense, which allowed Kaileigh Thomlinson and Paige O’Neill to score two goals apiece and Ronnie Weber to add another.
After struggling all season to get going in the first half, that wasn’t a problem for the Lady Wildcats on Thursday. O’Neill got them on the board first when she punched a shot into the back of the net 7:56 into the first half. Weber beat the keeper to make it 2-0 in the 20th minute, and Thomlinson joined the fun five minutes later with a goal to make it 3-0.
Neosho’s final goals were scored quickly in the second half as Neosho went for the jugular. Thomlinson got things started with a goal at 45:56 before O’Neill scored just under six minutes later on an assist from Karina Barambayeva to make it 5-0.
Neosho goalie Matty Liedtke pitched the shutout.
“We connected so well and played in our positions all night,” Schnackenberg said. “Putting passes together to create opportunities was something we have talked about. They did that tonight, too.”
The Lady Wildcats had 13 shots on goal.
Neosho’s B team also bested Webb City on Thursday 3-1.
Macy Smith, Shelby Fletcher and Kelly Lopez each scored for the Lady ‘Wildcats.
Neosho entertains Carthage on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
