  • Wildcats earn fifth seed at Class 5, District 12 Tournament, defeat Republic Wednesday

  • After falling to Webb City 14-8 on Tuesday, the Neosho Wildcats rebounded with a 10-2 road victory over Republic on Wednesday.
    Neosho’s Tyler Johnson hit his second homer in three days against the Tigers and Trey Turner turned in a solid start on the mound and clubbed three hits offensively to lead the Wildcats to victory.
    The Wildcats clubbed 11 hits in the game, with Turner leading the way with three, while Kyler Finley and Johnson had two apiece. Johnson’s two-run shot accounted for both of his RBIs, while Finley tripled and also had two RBIs. Turner and Brendan Craig each doubled, while Craig, Kody Kelly, Jayce Parmley and Logan Stuart all had a hit.
    “It was a team that was focused and believed,” Wildcats coach Donny Pennington said. We had a big discussion about our goals and believing in our team and (we) believed in each other and came out and played well (Wednesday).”
    Turner earned the win after striking out six and walking six on three hits with two earned runs in five innings. Lane Brodie pitched two scoreless innings with two hits and two strikeouts to finish the game.
    The Wildcats (12-8, 2-5 COC) won the B game 6-5 over Republic and topped Webb City 6-2.
    The Wildcats drew the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Class 5, District 12 Tournament at Willard High School in Willard, Mo. Carthage earned the top seed, followed by Willard, Webb City, Joplin, Neosho and Republic. The Wildcats will take on Joplin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11.
    Information about the Wildcats’ game against Ozark on Thursday was not immediately at press time.
