The road to Grand Junction, Colo., and the NJCAA Division I World Series begins today for the Crowder Roughriders as they begin postseason play in the NJCAA Region 16 Tournament at Wilson-Rozier Field in Farmington, Mo.
The No. 1 seed and ranked No. 6 nationally at 43-11 overall, the Roughriders, who went 25-3 in the region this season, begin play against the eight seed in St. Charles Community College today at 4 p.m. A win will move the Roughriders on to face the winner of Mineral Area (4) and St. Louis Community College (5) at 4 p.m. Thursday.
If they make it through their side of the bracket unscathed, the Roughriders will be watching the other side where Jefferson College (2) and Maple Woods (3) could square off against one-another in the second-round with wins.
Assuming the Roughriders make it to the title game, things could shake out nicely for them in the double-elimination tournament.
The winner of the tournament will advance to the South Central District to face the Region 2 winner. The Region 2 winner will host the South Central District title game with the winner advancing to the World Series in Grand Junction.
The Roughriders are vying for their first return trip since last making it there in 2010.
