  • Six Crowder College baseball players were named to the All-Region 16 Team for their performance in helping guide the 47-13 Roughriders this season.
The team is compiled by coaches who nominate four infielders, three outfielders, a catcher, a designated hitter and three pitchers — meanwhile, coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.
Making the team for the Roughriders this season are five sophomores and one freshman. The sophomores are pitchers Jon Woodcock (Ojai, Calif.), Chris Caudle (Greenwood, Ark.) and Preston Tarkington (Searcy, Ark.), third baseman Tony Sandifer (Greenwood, Ark.) and catcher C.J. Webster (Trabuco, Calif.). Freshman designated hitter Matt Burgess (Greenbrier, Ark.) also topped the list.
Woodcock, a southpaw who finished tied for second in strikeouts in all of NJCAA Division I, was named Region 16 Player of the Year after going 8-1 with a 2.39 ERA with 111 strikeouts and just 22 walks on 58 hits in 83 innings pitched.
Caudle, meanwhile, won 11 games on the mound with a sparkling 1.88 ERA, including 54 strikeouts and 10 walks in 71.2 innings. A fellow righty, Tarkington finished 9-1 with a 2.95 ERA, striking out 95 on 18 walks in 79.1 innings.
Sandifer, a right handed batter, held down the hot corner with a .921 fielding percentage while leading the regulars with a .393 average while getting on base at a .401 clip and slugging .537. He finished with three home runs, a triple and 10 doubles to go along with 60 RBIs.
Webster’s bat was in the lineup on most days despite splitting parts of the season behind the dish with Sam May. Webster still led the team in homers with five while adding 12 doubles and 45 RBIs. He put together a slash line of .301/.382/.466 and turned in a .988 fielding percentage while throwing out 34.7 percent of base runners during the campaign.
Burgess will return next season after hitting .343 with three home runs, 24 doubles and 49 RBIs this year.
The Roughriders concluded their season after falling 9-6 in the Region 16 championship game to Maple Woods Community College last weekend. Before the shortcoming, the Roughriders dominated Region 16 competition this season as they tore through the league with a 29-5 record.
