  • After months of repairs and preparation, the Neosho Swimming Pool will be open for business this Saturday.
The city's pool, located at 416 Fairground Road, will open at 12:30 p.m. and offer free swimming on opening day.
Dana Daniel, the city's director of development services, said the city has replaced the pool's filters, four of the pool's side ladders, a light pole and painted the pool.
He said Parks Manager Amy Moritz and her crew have also been working on cleaning up the pool area, preparing the deck furniture, stocking up concessions and finalizing last minute details.
"We've got good lighting, everything's painted, equipment's running good, the food's ready to go," Daniel said. "I think Amy and her parks crew have just done an outstanding job of getting everything ready."
Daniel said all of the pool's recent repairs have been funded from leftover settlement money the city received from the pool house fire that occurred in 2011.
Moritz said the city is looking forward to the pool's opening.
"We're so excited to kick off the summer this Saturday at the Neosho pool, and are looking forward to having a great turnout," she said.
The pool's regular hours will be 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sundays.
The season runs through Monday, Sept. 2.
Daniel said the pool, which holds an approximate 350,000 gallons of water, is a service the city provides, and will likely not generate a profit for the city.
"Revenues I think are steady and good but our expenses will be the wages we pay for the lifeguards and our costs for chemicals and so forth, so I would say just a quick snapshot, I'd be hoping we can break even on that," Daniel said, noting that the pool is heavily used. "The kids love it. It's a good service for the community and we want everyone to be able to enjoy it."
Daily admission is $2 for children ages 6 to 17, and $3 for kids 18 and older, while children ages 5 and under swim for free.
The city also offers pool passes, which are available for $55 for individuals and $120 for a family of four, with each additional family member costing an additional $15 per person.
The Neosho Swimming Pool will also be offering swimming lessons in two sessions, Monday through Thursday, June 17 through 27 and Monday through Thursday, July 8 through 18. The cost of lessons is $37 per child per session.
The swimming pool will also host night swims from 8 p.m. to midnight on June 17, July 1, July 15 and July 29, at a cost of $3 per person.
There will also be family swim nights, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at a cost of $2 per person. The pool will host family swims June 11, June 18, July 2, July 16, July 23, July 30 and August 6.
