  • A Washburn man died as a result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash that took place at 2:20 p.m. Monday on Missouri Highway 76, a half mile north of Ridgley.
John V. Rose, 76, was pronounced dead at 5:28 p.m. at Joplin’s Freeman West Hospital after being airlifted there from Mercy Hospital in Cassville. The driver of the vehicle, Bettie L. Rose, 74, also of Washburn, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Cassville for treatment.
A report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened as the driver fell asleep and drove off of the right side of the roadway, where she struck a fence and a ditch.
Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, a patrol report noted.
