Carlee Claxton Johnson, 80, passed away June 14, 2013.

Carlee was born Feb. 26, 1933, in Hartville, Mo., to Everett and Chrissie (Young) Claxton. She graduated from Hartville High School in 1951 with honors, including being valedictorian. She attended Drury College in Springfield, graduating in 1955. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and a cheerleader for four years. She was also a White Rose of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Carlee married Bob Johnson in 1955 and they moved to Neosho where he was a State Farm agent. Carlee taught the fifth grade for 25 years at the old Intermediate School in Neosho. She enjoyed her students and was always pleased when they would still recognize her. Carlee was a cancer survivor, having worked with the Reach To Recovery breast cancer patients for 30 years. She was a co-founder of Bosom Buddies. She was honored with the Soroptimist Award for Women Helping Women; a member of Chapter JO PEO; the Women’s Bridge Club, the local Red Hat Ladies Society and a member of the Neosho First Christian Church where she had served as a deacon.

Carlee is survived by her husband, Bob, of 58 years; one son, Dr. Chris Johnson and his wife, Dr. Mara Galvin Johnson, of Leawood, Kan.; one daughter, Mitzi Johnson Glaser and husband, Dr. Josh Glaser of Chesterfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Robert Johnson, Julia Johnson, Elliott Glaser, and Caroline Glaser; sister-in-law, Sheila Claxton of Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Chrissie Claxton; brother E.C Claxton and wife, Fern, of Portland, Ore.; brother, Jack Claxton of Columbus, Ohio.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Neosho First Christian Church. Al Gritten, minister, will officiate. Following the service the family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall until 1 p.m.

Prior to the memorial services a private family interment will be held at the Neosho IOOF Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Andy Wood, Tom Payne, Bob Williams, Rick Butler, Jon Genesio, Jeff Haas, John Mills and Bill Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Anderson, Dr. George Olive, Bob Stults, Dr. Will Dabbs, Kenneth Cope, Fred Clark, Ben Moore and Roy Cochran.

The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Carlee be made to the Neosho First Christian Church, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, 64850.
