  • Rev. Ned J. Sargent, 87, Neosho, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 16, 2013, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Mt. Vernon, following a lengthy illness.
    Ned was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Picher, Okla., the son of Ned Rivers and Pearl May (Thompson) Sargent. He served in the U.S. Army as a machine gunner in Europe during World War II and had lived in Seneca, and Tahlequah, Okla., before moving to Neosho. Ned taught school at the Hickory Grove and Westview Schools in Newton County and the North 8 School in Oklahoma, he was a machinist at Vicker's and Rocketdyne, sold insurance for 25 years and together with his wife, operated a small dairy for 43 years. He was an ordained minister and had pastored Southern Baptist Churches in Pioneer, Stella, Hart, Lanagan and Clear Creek communities and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
    Ned and Doris C. Stark were married on Dec. 17, 1950, in Joplin and she survives.
    He is also survived by four children, Karen Elaine Vialle and husband, Steva, Lexington, Mo., William Franklin Sargent, Fairview, Benjamin Joseph Sargent, Belle, Mo., and Kathryn Marie Rohlfing and husband, Gary, Big Spring, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Kristine Vialle, Kansas City, Mo., and Kaitlin Suzanne Rohlfing, Big Spring; two sisters-in-law, Avis Lankford Rudd and Georgia Stark, both of Neosho; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and neighbors.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Suzanne Sargent; sister, Betty Marie Sargent; and brother, Bobby Lee Sargent.
    Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Salem Cemetery, Rev. R. T. Jay will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the graveside service. Serving as pallbearers will be Stanley Lankford, Larry Lankford, Tom Lankford, Garry Lankford, Rodney Stark and Kenneth Whitehill and honorary pallbearers will be Gary Wilson, Fred Stark, Jr., Ronald Stark, Roger Mills and Larry Kranz.

    Service arrangements are under the directions of Clark Funeral Home Neosho.
