JOLLY MILL — The Jolly Mill Park Foundation is gearing up for a music and fireworks event.

“It is our second annual Jammin’ At Jolly Mill Park’s Tal Wooten Memorial Music Event,” said Piper Price, secretary to the foundation.

The event will be held from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at the park, which is located in the eastern part of Newton County.

“Tal Wooten and Rosalie (Tal’s wife) are good friends of Jim Moore, who initially developed the Jolly Mill area and Tal has passed away,” she said. “But (Tal) helped by buying one of the lots initially on the estate side and was going to build but fell ill and that didn’t happen. But he continued to support the different events we did. He always helped at Christmastime with decorating the mill, the cost of that, etc.”

Music will be provided by the Mark Chapman Band, Timberline Bluegrass Band, The Bootkickers and Neva Welters. Cover charge is $10 per vehicle (only $5 to members of Jolly Mill Park with a 2013 park pass). There will be no alcohol provided or can be on the park’s site.

Price said the Mark Chapman Band perform all kinds of music from contemporary to some country to some rock and contemporary country. Neva Welters is a folk singer, Timberline Bluegrass Band performs bluegrass and The Bootkickers are square dancers.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and their picnic. However, there will be concessions available ranging from sandwiches, funnel cakes, sodas and water for a price.
At dark, a fireworks display will be held.
The historic mill was built in 1848.

Also during Saturday’s event, spectators will be able go inside the historic mill.
Proceeds from this event will go back to pay the band and also upkeep at the mill, Price noted.
