  • ANDERSON — Organizers are gearing up for the first ever Arts in the Park, slated from 5-10 p.m. Friday at Dabbs Greer Park, Anderson.
The event is open to the public and is a fundraiser for the Anderson Betterment Club.
"We are always looking for something to revitalize our community, to bring people into town and enjoy the company of their neighbors," said Jennifer Fischer, coordinator of the event. "Our main goal is to raise money to improve our playground equipment here in Anderson. Our main part for our kids to play on has not been updated since 1960-something."
The event will include music, food, face painting, duck pond for toddlers, and arts and crafts demonstrations.
Proceeds from vendor booth fees will go back to the betterment club.
"Our high school band is going to be selling tater twisters and fried onions," she said. "Our fire department is selling pulled pork sandwiches. The food fees will be going to the high school band and the fire department because they need some funds. Our high school band just got approved to do fundraising for the next two years for a band trip to Hawaii. The fire department is needing new equipment such as face masks."
Fischer said the response for this event has been great.
"I have received a lot of positive feedback, a lot of people are saying that they are going to come," she said. "All of the kids that I know, they are excited, because it is going to be something to do."
