A longtime restaurant in Neosho, which has been closed since January of this year, is not coming back.
A sign is now posted in front of Shoney's, 3001 Lusk Dr., Neosho.
"They (Shoney's) have decided not to have a corporate store, they didn't sign the lease," Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Director Gib Garrow said. "They don't own the building, it is owned by a different entity. And that group, I have been talking to, they have listed it, we were still talking to Shoney's about a possible franchisee, but they don't have any in Missouri or close, they would consider if somebody in the region wanted to look at a Shoney's franchisee, they would be willing to work with somebody."
The sign is from Sperry Van Ness out of Springfield and states the property is "available."
"The building itself is 4,500 square feet," said Garrow.
Shoney's has been in Neosho since the late 1990s.
The Neosho Daily News tried to contact Shoney's recently and phone calls were not returned to the newspaper.
However, when the Neosho Shoney's closed in January, the Daily News contacted their director of marketing, Damon Davoudpour.
"The franchisee decided to close the Shoney's restaurants he operated in Missouri," Davoudpour said in January, in a prepared statement. "Shoney's brand is very sad and concerned about the impact of the closure on the community. Shoney's is grateful to the communities where we operate and we thank our guests for coming to Shoney's over the years."
