Paul G. Hembree, 81, Joplin, passed away at 4:44 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at his home after an illness.

Paul was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Reeds, Mo., to the late Cecil Hembree and Maggie Shields Hembree and had lived in Joplin most of his life.
Paul was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He carried supplies and fought on the frontlines. After making S.F.C., he had the privilege of transporting the lieutenant. He received four Bronze stars before he was honorably discharged.

On April 2, 1955, Paul married Mary Ann Burtrum in Miami, Okla.

He worked as a truck driver for IGA-Fleming Foods for more than 30 years, retiring in 1991.

In his spare time, Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, and watching NASCAR. He was a longtime member of Teamsters #823.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann; two sons, Terry Hembree and his wife, Valerie, Grove, Okla., Mike Hembree, Joplin; two daughters, Kandi Blaukat and her husband, Roger, Newcastle, Okla., Lisa Helms Holcomb and her husband, David, Cordova, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Lee Evans officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the mortuary.
