  • QUAPAW, Okla. — Organizers with the Pink Ribbon Gala 2013: Diamonds Are Forever, Let's Bond Together, fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO), held on Friday, July 26 at Downstream Casino Resort, are pleased with the outcome.
"I could not be more proud of our community for stepping up, because they did," said Kristi Seibert, outreach director for the foundation. "Our goal going into the event was to have pre-gala sold sponsorships of $90,000 and we have an overall goal for the event for $120,000… Going into the gala as it turns out, we were right at goal. The day before, we got another $1,000 sponsorship check that came in and we got several individuals that were guests that made contributions. Going right in, it was like $89,850, we almost hit that $90,000 mark."
The sell out semi-formal event saw 430 people and they were treated to dinner, music, and silent and live auctions.
"We went well over our goal, we are like at $135,000 plus," she said. "Probably for the next 60 days, cash donations will come in. Last year, that happened and another $5,000 or some came in for the event."
    About the BCFO
The Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks is a resource for individuals and families in Southwest Missouri who are impacted by breast cancer.
The money raised during the gala will go to a good cause.
"The funds that were raised at Pink Ribbon Gala, will go to our financial assistance program," Seibert said. "The financial assistance program provides non-medical support to families that are affected by breast cancer and that are in active treatment for breast cancer. That means, we make house payments, rent payments, we pay local utilities (Empire Electric and New-Mac Electric), car insurance payments, new tires, and car payments. The money will go to our screening mammograms that we have contracts with at Mercy and Freeman hospital. And the money all stays local in our counties."

    Upcoming event
Indigo Sky Casino has partnered with BCFO for the first annual Swinging for Pink Dinner/Auction and Golf Tournament on Sept. 6 and 7 at Indigo Sky Casino.
"On Sept. 6, it is a big banquet dinner, band and auction," she said. "Then on Sept. 7, it is a golf tournament, it will be held at Twin Hills Country Club."
