PINEVILLE — First-degree murder charges have been filed in connection with a 2011 McDonald County murder.

Fred Bremer, 39, of Rogers, Ark., faces a Class A felony charge of murder in the first degree in connection with the February 2011 slaying of Jack McCain, 67, also of Rogers. The charges were filed on Monday.

McCain's body was found the afternoon of Feb. 20, 2011, at the side of Gobbler's Knob Road near Powell. The cause of death was determined to have been gunshot wounds, but authorities at the time did not say how many times the man had been shot nor where the wounds were located.

Authorities allege Bremer drove McCain to an isolated area on the roadway under the pretense of helping McCain feed his animals. Once there, Bremer reportedly shot McCain repeatedly, causing his death.

McCain owned property about four miles from the site and visited McDonald County at least twice a week to care for his animals, former Sheriff Rob Evenson said at the time.

Investigators with the McDonald County Sheriff's Department contacted the Rogers Police Department for help in locating Bremer. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say there may be additional arrests.

Bremer is currently in the Washington County, Ark., Jail awaiting extradition back to Missouri.
