An arraignment has been set for a Joplin man facing charges in the shooting death of a Granby woman last weekend.
Windell Daniels, 31, Joplin, is slated to appear before Jasper County Division V Associate Circuit Court Judge Richard D. Copeland at 9:05 a.m. Sept 4 for the proceeding.
Daniels is charged with felony counts of involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting death of Kelly Jean Crawford, 22, of Granby. The incident took place at a home on County Road 10 in Jasper County. Crawford died Sunday morning at Joplin’s Freeman West Hospital.
Jasper County Sheriff's Capt. Derek Walrod said investigators believe Daniels mishandled a handgun, causing the gun to accidentally go off, striking Crawford in the back of the head.
Walrod said the two were with a group of friends at the home on County Road 10 about two miles north of Missouri Highway 96. The group had been shooting at targets before the incident and officers allege that Daniels went outside to get the handgun, brought it inside the home and mishandled the gun causing it to go off and strike Crawford.
Daniels has posted a $10,000 bond and is free.
