Hundreds of disc golfers will descend on Neosho in the coming weeks, as Morse Park will play host to a pair of sanctioned events at the course.
The Joplin Disc Golf Club will kick off the events by hosting the 6th Annual Little Big Show Disc Golf Tournament at the Morse Park Disc Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 24. Organizers for the PDGA sanctioned event say they are expecting to register anywhere from 40-70 players for the all day tourney.
The players meeting for the event begins at 9:30 a.m. and the first round is scheduled to tee off shortly after the meeting concludes. The tournament will consists of two rounds of play, and players will be allowed a lunch break in-between rounds.
The PDGA will again return to Neosho from Sept. 27-29 for the 8th Annual Four States Open A-Tier, also to be held at the Morse Park Disc Golf Course. That event, which is a PDGA Super Tour event, is expected to see some 270 players in total — up from 180 in 2012.
Due to the size of the event, the tournament will be held in two locations, McClelland Park in Joplin and Morse Park in Neosho, with rounds at Morse Park happening both Friday and Saturday (Sept. 27-28), with the finals held at McClelland Park on Sunday, Sept. 29. Many of the region’s top professional disc golfers will be at the Super Tour event, including some of the best women’s disc golfers the world has to offer. According to organizers, all players at the tournament are expected to funnel through Neosho at some point during action on either Friday or Saturday.
This event will be the first PDGA Super Tour event the area has hosted, according to Andrew Jinks of the Joplin Disc Golf Club.
