Organizers with the 2013 4 States BBQ Championship – hosted by Downstream Casino Resort – are gearing up for the third annual event this Friday.

The event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at the casino’s parking lot.

It is open to the public and tickets are $15 each, which can be purchased at the gate starting at 7 p.m.

“Right now, we have 33 teams entered into Saturday's competition (which is not open to the public, only to the judges) but we do not have a final number on how many teams will be competing in the People's Choice on Friday,” said Katherine Herman, special events and promotions supervisor at Downstream Casino Resort. “(On Friday, the public) will be able to sample the cooking team's food and judge which one they believe is the best. Those that are new Q Club members will receive $20 Q Play and existing members will receive $10 Q Play.”
Downstream will be providing the barbecue competitors with chicken wings and pork butts to cook.

“The People's Choice is a way for some of the teams to just have fun with the public,” she said. “The winning team will receive $250 in Q Play and a plaque. The Grand Champion of Saturday’s competition will get an invitation to the American Royal competition in Kansas City.”

Herman said that also on Saturday, they will be giving out more than $11,000 in cash and prizes to the winners of the competition.

Herman said they are grateful to host this unique event.

“We are very pleased to bring this event to the region, and this is one of the many things we do that we enjoy so much,” she said. “It’s a ton of fun for us, for our guests, for the competitors and everyone involved.”

Saturday’s award ceremony will be held at 3 p.m.
