It was a night of firsts for the Diamond Lady Wildcats.

They earned their first win of the season, the first under new head coach Kelsey Henson, and picked up their first Spring River Valley Conference win of the year. They did it in grand fashion, too, hammering College Heights Christian 14-1 in five innings.

“I am pretty pumped about it,” Henson said. “We played really well. Opening up conference 1-0 doesn’t hurt at all.”

The Lady Wildcats (1-1) had this one in the bag early.

After the Lady Cougars scored first, Diamond answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning to make it 5-1. They went on to add two more in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth as they pounded out 12 hits.

That was more support than Lady Wildcats starting pitcher Tessia Green would need. She dominated the Lady Cougars, holding them to two hits while striking out two and walking one to earn the victory. She helped her own cause, too, contributing a hit at the plate.

Macie Seward led the charge on offense for Diamond with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Alyssa Anderson also had three hits and drove in three runs, while Bailey Bien and Katie Henson both had two hits — one of Henson’s was a double — and two RBIs apiece. Alyssa Fields and Hanna Million had a hit each.

The Lady Wildcats travel to Pierce City for another Spring River Valley Conference game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
