  • Neosho softball tops Carl Junction twice

  • After losing to the Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs in extra innings in the season opener on Wednesday, the Neosho Lady Wildcats were determined to exact some revenge against them at the Paige Neal/Christina Freeman Tournament at the Joplin Athletic Complex.

  • After losing to the Carl Junction Lady Bulldogs in extra innings in the season opener on Wednesday, the Neosho Lady Wildcats were determined to exact some revenge against them at the Paige Neal/Christina Freeman Tournament at the Joplin Sports Complex.
    After five games in the tournament Neosho (2-5) defeated the Lady Bulldogs twice in finishing 2-3 on the weekend.
    After defeating Carl Junction 9-8 in pool play on Friday, the two foes squared off again Saturday where the Lady Wildcats prevailed again, 10-6. Logan Bates started on the mound for Neosho on Saturday and worked five innings to earn the win. Bailey Spence closed out the game with two innings of relief.
    Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Neosho responded with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Lady Bulldogs answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Neosho went on to score one in the fifth, four in the sixth and three more in the seventh. Carl Junction plated three in the sixth and one in the seventh, but the damage had already been done.
    Emily Harrell led Neosho's offense with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Lindsay Vance had two hits, a double, and two RBIs. Grace Enlow and Cassie Dickens each had two hits.
    In another game against Nevada on Saturday the Lady Wildcats couldn't avoid the big inning as the Lady Tigers scored seven times in the bottom of the third inning to take a 10-2 lead. The Lady Wildcats responded with a strong push, scoring three times in the fourth, three more in the fifth and one in the seventh, but ultimately fell short 10-9.
    Enlow and Spence both homered and doubled in the game for Neosho as Enlow finished with three hits and Spence two. Spence had two RBIs. Deanna Bingham had two hits and an RBI in the loss.
    On Friday Neosho fell to Webb City 16-0 and Columbia-Rock Bridge 21-0.
    The Lady Wildcats are back in action at 5 p.m. Thursday at Willard.
