Houston Roy Slatton, 79, Neosho, passed away at 1:26 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, after an illness.
Born Sept. 22, 1933, in Delight, Ark., he was the son of the late Roy Hugo Slatton and Annie Ruth Blakely Slatton. Raised in Delight, he lived most of his life in the Houston, Texas, area and had lived in the Neosho/Seneca area the past 20 years. He was a master carpenter and custom home builder in the Houston area and was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather. He most recently attended Swars Prairie Church of Christ.
On Jan. 15, 1954, he married Edith Lorraine Nielsen in Arkansas. She preceded him in death May 10, 1998.
Two sisters, Lorene Scarsillato and Eddith Slatton; and a grandchild, Jordan Granger, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, David Slatton and wife, Rebecca, Houston, Glen Slatton and wife, Mary, Neosho; a daughter, Peggy Granger and husband, Will, Neosho; three brothers, Paul Slatton and wife Novalene, Hope, Ark., Gene Slatton and wife, Jewel, Bel Air, Texas, Harry Slatton and wife, Barbara, Houston; two sisters, Margie Stanley, Houston, Joan Viertel and husband, Ed, Carmine, Texas; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today at Parker Chapel with Thomas Wayne Slatton officiating, after which, the family will receive friends.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
