Neosho jumped out to an early lead in the first game, but couldn’t hang on as Joplin escaped with a win in straight sets 25-20, 25-14 on Thursday.
“We had the lead and then just had some mistakes and couldn’t hang on,” Lady Wildcats coach Kerri Roy said.
Neosho’s Chelsey Henry led the team with two kills, while Brooke Stauffer added three blocks, Sam Duke had eight digs, Kennedy Lyerla tallied four assists and Morgan Rogers finished with two aces.
“We didn’t play bad the whole time,” Roy said. “We just made some mistakes and the next thing we know we were down 10 points. We’re going to be fine once we start to believe in each other. We have a lot to work on, but we’ll get there. We’re probably going to see Joplin three more times this year, so hopefully we’ll be much improved when we see them again.”
Joplin won the B game 25-5, 25-8. The Lady Eagles also won the freshman game 25-15, 25-12.
The Lady Wildcats (1-2) entertain Mount Vernon at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
