  • A recent fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO) was deemed a success by organizers.
The Swinging For Pink Dinner/Auction & Golf Tournament was held Friday, Sept. 6, and Saturday, Sept. 7, at Indigo Sky Casino, with the golf tournament held on Saturday at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. Indigo Sky put on the event.
“From what I know now, the net is approximately $45,000,” said Kristi Seibert, outreach director with BCFO. “Since Indigo presented BCFO with an invoice at the dinner/auction with giant pink wording "PAID IN FULL,” there are very little expenses associated with the event. This gift is one of the largest event gifts BCFO has received within all of its 31-county service area.”
The Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks is a resource for individuals and families in Southwest Missouri who are impacted by breast cancer.
Seibert said in a previous interview that proceeds from the event will fund programs BCFO provides to local families.
“The largest one is the financial assistance program. When there is a breast cancer diagnosis and active treatment going on in that household, we provide financial support for non-medical things such as paying the mortgage or their rent, paying the utilities bills, fixing their car to make sure they can get back and forth to treatment, just a multitude of things that keep the household going, just normal everyday expenses. Also, continue funding of the mammography program, which in our service area, we have contracts with both Mercy and Freeman to provide screening mammograms for the uninsured and the underinsured, those are the two main funds.”
Indigo Sky Casino is the first Oklahoma business to put on a fundraiser for BCFO.
“The magnitude of this event is far reaching,” said Seibert. “BCFO has been providing services in Ottawa and Delaware counties (in Oklahoma) for years. BCFO needed access to Oklahoma businesses. Led by Regina Hammons, Indigo marketing specialist and event manager, this process began because of Swinging for Pink. Regina is an avid golfer and due to her relationships in the golfing circuit, the tournament attracted teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas. To have Indigo step up with a glad heart and assume this leadership roll for BCFO is priceless for the families BCFO serves.”
Seibert said the casino, the Eastern Shawnee Tribe and BCFO will soon begin planning for the second annual Swinging for Pink event.
