CARTHAGE — A long goal early in the second half sparked Carthage and sent the Tigers to a 4-1 victory over the Neosho boys’ varsity soccer team on Tuesday.
Neosho’s Jake Humphrey got the Wildcats on the board in the first half with a chip-shot over the head of the goalkeeper on a breakaway pass from Nathan Scribner. That helped the Wildcats take a 1-1 tie into halftime.
The Tigers, however, wouldn’t go away as they quickly scored out of the break and continued to pile on in the second half.
“We really played to our gameplan in the first half,” Wildcats coach Steve Schnackenberg said. “In the second half we lost some of our organization and hustle and Carthage just capitalized on it.”
The Wildcats won the B game 2-1. Francisco Reyes and Seth Van Story scored for the Wildcats, while keepers Logan Merrell and Mario Reyes split time in goal and made a handful of key saves to keep the Wildcats in it.
Neosho entertains Joplin at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
