  • Coming off big victories over Ecclesia College (6-2) and St. Louis Community College (3-2 in overtime) last week, the Crowder Roughriders soccer team was in prime position to make a run in the second half of Wednesday’s game against Neosho County Community College and stretch its winning streak to three games. Neosho County had other plans, however, and ended the streak with a 5-1 victory.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Crowder utilized its Joplin connection as freshman Will Krolman assisted former Joplin High School teammate, and fellow freshman, Joe Rice on a goal late in the half to cut it to 2-1.
The score would remain 2-1 at the intermission, but the Roughriders couldn’t muster any further offense in the second half and Neosho County pulled away.
Neosho County finished with only a handful of shots on goal, but made them count in scoring on almost every opportunity.
The Roughriders (4-4 overall) travel to Independence, Mo., for a 3 p.m. tilt Saturday with Blue River Community College.
