  • Three hurt on area roadways

  • Two people were hurt, one seriously, in a one-vehicle crash that happened at 1:55 a.m. Satrday morning on Newton Road, a mile west of Joplin.
    Lisa Christian, 46, of Joplin, and Brian Harris, 39, of Diamond were taken by ambulance to Joplin’s Freeman West Hospital for treatment. Christian suffered serious injuries in the crash, while Harris had moderate ones.
    The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened as Christian lost control of her eastbound 1994 Dodge Stratus. The car went off of the right side of the roadway and overturned.
    Both Christian and Harris were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, a patrol report noted.
    A McDonald County man suffered minor injuries when his ATV struck a fence while he was driving in the ditch Friday evening.
    Marlet L. Howard, 82, of Goodman was taken to Joplin’s Freeman West Hospital for treatment.
    The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 7 p.m. Friday on Lark Road, a mile south of Goodman. A patrol report said Howard was northbound on a 2003 Yamaha ATV in the ditch when the craft hit a fence and overturned onto the driver.
    Howard was exempt from wearing a helmet on the craft, a patrol report noted.
