  • Some early formations simply didn’t work for the Neosho Lady Wildcats in the first game against the Monett Lady Cubs on Thursday. But after a few adjustments before the second game, the Lady Wildcats went on a tear in a come from behind victory in varsity volleyball action.
Neosho downed the Lady Cubs 21-25, 25-11, 25-18.
A big part of that turnaround was the play at the net by Lady ‘Cats Morgan Rogers and Brooke Stauffer. They helped set the tone for the comeback, while Mallory Powell had a solid game on the back line and Chelsey Henry also stepped up and played a key role late.
“We didn’t play very well that first game,” Lady Wildcats coach Kerri Roy said. “I made some adjustments early and we struggled a bit. We made some more changes, some adjustments before that second game and really played well. We had the momentum going and just played our game. It was just fun to watch and fun to coach.”
Rogers led the Lady Wildcats with eight kills and three aces. Kennedy Lyerla also had a big day with 18 assists. Stauffer added two blocks, and Sam Duke turned in 10 digs.
The Lady Wildcats won the B game 23-25, 25-12, 25-20. They also won the ninth grade game 25-20, 25-11.
Neosho (3-7-1) travels to Seneca for a showdown at 5 p.m. Monday.
