Business leaders, community leaders and the general public were invited to a kickoff breakfast Thursday at the United Community Fund of the Neosho Area office, 212 S. Washington St., Neosho.
"We will be having a drive until the end of December," said Kathi Stephens, executive director with the United Fund. "Our goal this year is $114,000. We support 17 agencies, which helps take care of people in Newton and McDonald counties."
This year, the fund supports: Area Agency on Aging, Area Community Health Emissaries, Inc., Big Brothers and Sisters, Boy Scouts, Cerebral Palsy, Children's Haven, Children's Mercy Hospital, 4-H Clubs, Girl Scouts, Lafayette House, Neosho Crosslines and Guest House, Newton County Cancer Fund, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Special Olympics, Neosho R-5 Student Assistant Fund and YMCA.
United Fund of the Neosho Area began in 1957.
"Somehow, some way, somebody that you know has probably been helped by one of these agencies," Stephens said.
