  • The Seneca Lady Indians came out ready to play on Monday, but after sputtering a bit the Neosho Lady Wildcats would find their groove and came from behind to win the varsity volleyball tilt in three sets 12-25, 25-13, 25-19 at Seneca High School.
Neosho struggled mightily in the early going as Seneca jumped out to a commanding lead in the first game and never looked back. In the second set, however, the Lady Wildcats made a few adjustments.
“We did not play very well at all in the first game,” Neosho coach Kerri Roy said. “In the second game we talked about having some kind of intensity and passion. We had to get the ball in the hands of Morgan (Rogers) a little more and Mallory Powell was all over the place, and they kind of fed off each other and did really well. It was a good win.”
Rogers led the team with five blocks and 10 kills, while Powell had 16 digs and two aces. Kennedy Lyerla finished with 11 assists.
Molli Cooper led Seneca with nine assists and four digs. Rachel Butterfield also turned in nine assists and Maranda Sparks had nine kills.
“We came out really strong and then just kind of mentally didn’t pull it together in the second set, had some breakdowns and stuff at the net,” Lady Indians coach Cheryl Butterfield said.
    Seneca won the B match 25-15, 25-19.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 4-7-1 overall. Seneca dropped to 2-5.
Neosho travels to take on McDonald County at 5 p.m. today. Seneca is at the Strafford Tournament on Saturday with games slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
