Yankee Doodle Dandy

I just watched the classic film, “Yankee Doodle Dandy” which came out in 1942.  The US and the world were coming out of a worldwide depression.  We had just entered WW II.   People had reasons to be fearful and angry.  Instead, they rallied together to solve crises.

Cagney is often remembered for the tough guy roles he played, but in this film, he danced!  Wow, did he dance!  He was once a vaudevillian. They knew how to dance and entertain or get booed off the stage. Nothing like the no-talent filth that Mylie Cyrus exposed at the VMA.

James Cagney earned an Academy award for playing George M. Cohan in this film.   George loved the stage and Broadway.  He wrote “Over There” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” Those songs inspired America during WWI and WWII.  Congress granted him The Congressional Medal of Honor for his contributions to the spirit of America during those two horrible wars.  What contribution has Mylie made to unify or inspire America?

While watching this film, I was struck by how the spirit of America has changed---and not for the better.   The “arts and entertainment” industry seem to strive to produce the most violent, vile, and most disturbing products they can.  The politicians seem bent on destroying the United States by dividing us with hatred and by undermining anything and everything President Barak Obama tries to accomplish for the good of The People.

How they can call themselves Patriots and Christians is beyond me.

When Obama ran for president in 2008, Americans said we wanted Health Care for all.  He and most of his fellow Democrats got the Affordable Care Act through congress, and the Supreme Court judged the law to be constitutional.

That should be the final word on health care.

But Ted Cruz says he will fight it until he cannot stand up any more.  Sarah Palin says it contains “Death Panels.”   An utter untruth.

Senator Cruz, of course, has excellent health care benefits paid for by you and me.  Is Senator Cruz prepared to give up his health insurance?

Why are Republicans fighting to take affordable health care away from 30 million Americans?  They try to take from the poor to give to the already rich---so their donors and they can make huge profits at the expense of the little guy.

For the same reason they are trying to eliminate Social Security and Medicare.  They want to “privatize” health care, retirement plans, highways, parks, prisons, schools, even water!   These cuts are not to “balance the budget.”  These are money grabs to profit a few at the expense of the many---the hard working many.  Talking about the national debt and balancing the budget is a diversion—a Reverse Robin Hood.

These are no “Yankee Doodle Dandies.”  Most have never served “Over There.”   I remember family members who served during WWII.  One with Patton in North Africa and up through Italy, one whose ship was torpedoed in the Pacific, women who did factory work on the west coast while the men were at war.  They were true Yankee Doodle Dandies.   They save and rebuilt nations.  Today’s “Tea Party Patriots” are neither Patriots nor Yankee Doodle Dandies.
