  • Bree Cornett struck out 10 batters as the Seneca Lady Indians defeated Neosho 3-1 in the varsity softball regular season finale on Monday at the Seneca Baseball/Softball Complex.
Cornett earned the victory on the mound, allowing five hits, one run no walks and the aforementioned 10 strikeouts. Neosho’s Bailey Spence took the loss despite a solid performance, too, as she scattered six hits, didn’t allow an earned run, walked three and struck out three.
Neosho took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning when Emily Harrell singled and later scored on a double by Danielle Bingham.
The Lady Indians tied it up in the bottom of the fourth when Courtney Cook reach on an error and later scored from third on a Bailey Skelton double to make it 1-1. Another error in the top of the fifth, coupled with a passed ball and two walks helped the Lady Indians push across the go-ahead and insurance runs needed to put it away.
Skelton led the Lady Indians with two doubles, while Cornett had a double and Cook, Macy VanDorn and Kaylee Wolfinbarger had hits.
Harrell and Danielle Forkner led the Lady Wildcats with two hits apiece, while Bingham finished with the double and an RBI.
Neosho fell to 11-14 overall. They’ll host Republic at 7 p.m. Friday to kick off the Class 4, District 12 Tournament at the Neosho Softball Field at Carver Elementary School.
Seneca (19-6) takes on the winner of Carl Junction vs. Aurora at the Class 3, District 12 Tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday at Monett.
Neosho won the B game 8-1.
