  • The McDonald County Lady Mustangs split a pair of games at the Carthage Softball Tournament on Friday before the tournament was called due to bad weather.

  • The McDonald County Lady Mustangs split a pair of games at the Carthage Softball Tournament on Friday before the tournament was called due to bad weather.
    In the first game the Lady Mustangs defeated Carl Junction 9-4.
    Carl Junction took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the LadyMustangs scored twice in each of the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings and one in the fifth.
    Cheyanne Chappie earned the victory on the mound after scattering 10 hits over seven innings, allowing three earned runs with a walk and three strikeouts.
    Coley Ickes led McDonald County with three hits, including a triple. Courtni Smith, Kelsy Reynolds, Macie Jones and Stormy Christerson had two hits each. Jones, Christerson and Smith had a double apiece, while Reynolds and Smith also tripled.
    In another game the Lady Mustangs lost for only the second time this season in a 4-0 decision against Ozark.
    Ozark’s Brittany Nimmo whirled a one-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks. Macie Jones had the only hit for the Lady Mustangs.
    Kali Hodson pitched for McDonald County and allowed four runs on 11 hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
    The Lady Mustangs (23-2) take on the winner of Joplin vs. Carthage at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Class 4, District 12 Tournament at the Neosho Softball Field at Carver Elementary School in Neosho.
