WHEATON — Circus goers will have the chance this Saturday to attend the Kelly Miller Circus – for two shows: 2 and 5:30 p.m. – at the Body of Christ Outreach Ministries Event Center, Wheaton.
Advance tickets are $10 for adults and children under 12 are $6. On Saturday, the prices are $15 for adults and children under 12, $7.
A percentage of the proceeds will go to church activities and missions.
"We are working as a fundraiser for Body of Christ Outreach Ministries in Wheaton, it helps them with all of their good activities in the community," said Jim Royal, general manager with Kelly Miller Circus, based out of Hugo, Okla. "This year, is quite exciting for us we are celebrating our 75th anniversary, 75 years of touring America and entertaining the citizens."
There will be a lot to see during the circus.
"They will see a traditional circus in a big top, which we think is the best way to see it," he said. "The tent was designed specifically to house a circus. They will see everything that you would expect in a circus, we are complete in every way. We have the full complement of acrobats, clowns and animals. This year, we have three very entertaining elephants with us, six tigers that perform, four zebras and two camels, two llamas, some pigmy goats that are also performers and a mixture of dogs."
With it being the circus's 75th anniversary, Royal said there will be national acts.
"We think we have a terrific cast of national artists this year including Girard Portugal, who balances on a trapeze on his head upside down, he does all sorts of things up there," he noted.
Prior to and right after each of the shows, the midway will be open for participants to ride elephants, camels, play games and eat food.
Also on Saturday, the tent will be raised and people can come out to see that as well.
"We do use the elephants to raise the tent, we shoot for a 9 a.m. tent raising," said Royal. "Yes, we understand that we are the last ones still raising the tent with an elephant."
