JOPLIN — Once again, Macadoodles of Joplin, located at 3105 E. 17th St., and Rebuild Joplin are hosting the annual Fall Wine and Spirits Tasting from 1-4 p.m. today.
"It is open to the public ages 21 years old and older with a valid ID. There is not a ticket fee, but we do ask for donations for our continued support of Rebuild Joplin," said Debbie Blackmon, wine room manager of Macadoodles of Joplin. "We will have approximately 125 different wines from all over the world. There will be beer and spirits with this show, too. We always do more spirits in the fall and all kinds of new spirits that we have brought in just for the holiday season and some new seasonal beers."
Various winery representatives will attend, and food from five different restaurants will be on hand. Visitors can purchase a limited edition wine glass for $20 or make a donation for a wine glass during the tasting. Of the $20 for the wine glass, Blackmon said, $10 will go back to Rebuild Joplin.
"All proceeds go to Rebuild Joplin, we continue to support Rebuild Joplin because they are not through rebuilding here," she said.
Macadoodles was one of the businesses which was destroyed during the May 2011 tornado that came through Joplin.
"We reopened Oct. 28, 2011, after the tornado: it was five months and five days from the day the tornado took away the original building," she said in an earlier interview.
There will be various silent auction items and this year, there will be something new for people to purchase.
"We will have a blind bottle pole where you can pick a bottle for a certain amount of money and you get what you pay for," Blackmon said. "We are going to separate them out in different dollar increments. They will be at $15, $20, $25, $30 and the wines that will be in those bags that retail cost. We are not going to put a $10 bottle of wine in a $30 bag."
Blackmon said they see people from all over — including the Neosho area — attending this event.
"It is a fun-filled day of wine drinking and great food," she said.
