Four Neosho cross country runners qualified for sectionals at the Class 4, District 6 Championships at Lake Springfield Cross Country Course in Springfield on Saturday.
Neosho took seventh out of 11 schools in the boys’ varsity 5K. Chance Burr and Cole Bishop both placed in the top 25 to advance to sectionals. Burr, a sophomore, makes his second trip to sectionals after finishing sixth with a time of 17:10, while Bishop took 25th in 18:14. Other results for the boys were: 41, Carter Hickman 18:56; 48, Kobi Miller 19:08; 52, Joby Paul 19:15; 67, Tyler Burr 21:01; 68, Thomas Vernon 21:52.
Neosho’s girls took sixth place in the varsity 5K, with Sydney Anderson and Amber Bates advancing to sectionals. Anderson advances for the second time in her career after taking 16th with a run of 21:40, and Bates is going for the second time in a row after taking 18th in 21:45. Other results for the girls were: 37, Ann Vernon 23:17; 38, Regan Rogers 23:20; 50, Katelyn Lowe 24:33; 59, Kalena Hansen 26:44; 64, Morganne Bishop 31:06.
“The girls team beat a couple of teams Saturday that they had not beaten this season,” Wildcats coach Tom Thorne said. “(The) Wildcat boys team competed really well, as they also beat several teams that had beaten them previously this year. They finished seventh after going into the meet ranked ninth and ended the regular season only two points behind the sixth place team and 13 points behind the fifth place team.”
In junior varsity boys’ action, Neosho’s Adam England took 23rd in 20:42, Cameron Aguillon-Langley was 25th in 21:02, Jacob Lett took 27th in 21:08 and Trenton Cook was 33rd (no time posted).
“The teams competed today, and with all but the three seniors the team is already talking about next year,” Thorne said. “One of the team members who has been on the team for three years stated: ‘This year we finally are getting some respect, and are looking toward working to get ready for next fall."
The sectional meet is scheduled for Saturday at Ha Ha Tonka State Park in Camdenton.
