  • STELLA — Organizers are gearing up for the sixth annual Stellabration, which will be held on Saturday in the village of Stella.
The morning starts at 7 a.m. with breakfast (prices to be announced) until 9:30 a.m. at the Stella Senior Center, followed by the veterans program at 10 a.m. at the Stella Veterans Memorial and activities throughout the day including arts and crafts, music, food and a parade. The event is open to the public.
“(Stellabration) is to honor our veterans,” said Bill Beckett, chairman of the Stella Veterans Memorial committee. “It is for all veterans and of course we want to honor those who are in our area too. We try to honor two different veterans each year.”
This year, James Maness and Glenn Isaac Fretz will be honored.
“Rep. Bill Lant will do a (House of Representatives) resolution for both of them,” Beckett said. “Also, we have a lady that is with the quilt guild in Stella and she is going to donate two quilts one to be given to each of the (honored) veterans (Fretz and Maness).”
During the veterans program, there will be an opening prayer, raising of the colors by the Neosho High School AFJROTC, Pledge of Allegiance also by the ROTC; Donna England singing the National Anthem and the guest speaker will be Mark Taylor of KNEO Radio. Taps will be performed and the Patriot Guard will be attending.
There will also be a possible cannon blast in the park and a possible flyover by a local pilot.
The Stella Historical Society will serve lunch (prices to be announced). Parade lineup will begin at noon at Triway School, with the parade to begin at 1:30 p.m. – with the parade route in front of the veterans’ memorial. Beckett said this event is important to all veterans. He served in Vietnam in 1967-68
“I am very pleased when a small community like Stella is willing to come together and be able to put this event on to honor our veterans, especially those who were not honored before,” he said. “When us Vietnam veterans came back we didn’t get any recognition.”
The annual event is co-sponsored by the Stella Veterans Memorial, Stella Senior Center, England Tax Service and the city of Stella.
