GRANBY — A unique event will help raise money for the East Newton High School’s 2014 Project Graduation.

The Zombie Novelty Run will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the East Newton High School, with funds going to Project Graduation. Start time is 10:45 a.m., pre-registration is $30 per person or $35 the day of. A kid’s fun run will begin at 10 a.m., pre-registration is $15 or day of the race at $20. Pre-registration ends at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Each will receive a T-shirt and chili lunch. Registration forms can be picked up at the high school, Simple Simon’s Pizza in Granby or Neosho Cheezie’s Pizza.

The Daily News asked Janice Jordon, organizer with the event, some questions about the Zombie Novelty Run.

NDN: What is the main purpose of this event?
Jordon: Main purpose is to raise money for East Newton 2014 Project Graduation.

NDN: Explain the Zombie Run.
Jordon: Zombie Novelty Run is approximately 1.5 miles. The quickest runners with the most flags still attached to their belt wins. Runners will run/walk a course and in doing so will try to avoid the zombies from taking their flags. Volunteers will dress up like zombies.

NDN: How did you come up with this fundraiser?
Jordon: A couple of senior parents brought the idea to a Project Grad meeting regarding raising funds.

NDN: Who can participate in the event?
Jordon: Adult Run ages 13 and older and Kid’s Fun Run 12 and under.

NDN: I know that this is a fundraiser for the 2014 Project Graduation, what will the money be used for?
Jordon: Money raised goes towards the end of the year Project Graduation/yearbooks for all (high school) seniors.

NDN: How proud are you of this event
Jordon: Excited, we have never done anything like this and hope it goes over well.

NDN: Anything else, please add.
Jordon: We hope that we can get a lot of participates and this will be successful. It's for a great cause, a party to celebrate a huge accomplishment free of drugs and alcohols for our graduates.
