JOPLIN - A Diamond man is being sought following a Wednesday morning assault that left one woman in critical condition.
According to Lt. Matt Stewart of the Joplin Police Department, Mark A. Thomas, 28, faces charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action stemming from Wednesday’s incident.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest with a $100,000 cash only bond set.
Paperwork was submitted to the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday morning seeking the felony charges against Thomas.
According to online court records, a complaint and probable cause statement were filed by Newton County Prosecutor Jacob Skouby on Wednesday and a warrant for Thomas’ arrest was issued.
Stewart said Joplin Police responded to a disturbance call early Wednesday, around 1:35 a.m. at 3216 Grand in Joplin.
When they arrived, officers found Amy Denney, 29, with serious head injuries.
She was transported to Freeman West Hospital for treatment.
According to online court records, Thomas is currently on probation for unlawful possession of a firearm charge, a Class C Felony, and possession of a controlled substance, also a Class C felony.
Thomas plead guilty to both of the earlier charges.
He received five years of supervised probation, with a suspended five-year prison sentence.
His probation began on Feb. 11.
