  • In a game that was close the entire way, the Crowder basketball team couldn’t get over the hump on Saturday and fell to Connors State on the road, 81-71, at Melvin Self Field House.
    The Lady ‘Riders (0-2) trailed 46-41 at the half, but Connors opened the second half with a 14-0 run to go up 60-41. Crowder would pull within seven (77-70) with just over a minute remaining, but the Cowgirls made sure they wouldn’t recover.
    Johneshia Major led the Cowgirls with 16 points, while Destinee Thrash finished with 14, Lauren Godfrey 11, Sherrell McHenry 10, Mari Jackson 10, Alyssa Jones seven, Katie Smith six, Jessica Dalman four and Heather Marshall three.
    Courtney Jones led the Lady ‘Riders with 17 points, while Dorian Briggs added 15, Katie Hughes had nine, Ariana Gallegos nine, Tae’lor Monroe eight, Lori Kleier four, Mariana Silva four, Tiffany Rhame three and Thays Barbosa two.
    The Lady ‘Riders host their home opener against Labette Community College at 6 p.m. today.
