The Neosho boys’ varsity soccer team concluded its season with a 3-0 loss to Carl Junction in the first round of the Class 2, District 12 Tournament on Tuesday in Carthage.
The Wildcats (8-10) played well and bested the Bulldogs in shots (13-12), but a second half surge was enough for the Bulldogs to escape with the win.
With the game still scoreless at halftime, Carl Junction regrouped and scored for the first time 53 minutes into the contest to make it 1-0. The Bulldogs added another goal at 73 minutes and drained the dagger five minutes later.
The Bulldogs finished with 10 shots on goal and the Wildcats had nine. Wildcats keeper Brandon Coyle saved five shots.
“Tough game,” Wildcats coach Steve Schnackenberg said. “We played well, we just didn’t get the result we wanted.”
Carl Junction went on to advance to the district finals where it lost to Carthage 5-0 on Thursday.
