The Southwest Cross Country Coaches Association recently selected its All-Southwest District Cross Country team for the 2013 season, and East Newton sophomore Emily Sorrell was named Class 2 girls co-Athlete of the Year with Stockton’s Alexis Smith.
Sorrell, who placed fourth at the Missouri State Cross Country Championships and earned all-state honors for the second year in a row, also earned first team honors. Fellow East Newton teammate Kelsey Hickman (junior) picked up second team honors. On the boys’ side, East Newton junior Max Sullivan was named to the second team.
The Class 3 boys and girls teams were dotted with 10 McDonald County Mustangs. On the girls’ side the Lady Mustangs were led by first team selection Faith Owens (junior), while Emily High (sophomore) made the second team and Kylie Littlefield (sophomore) and Rebekah Nandico (junior) were named honorable mention.
The boys were led by first team selection Connor Underwood (junior). Three runners landed on the second team: Freshmen Wesley Bethel and Treyton Murphy and junior Wade Schmit. Honorable mention went to juniors Randal Buckner and James Walker.
One Neosho Wildcat landed on the Class 4 team, as boys’ sophomore Chance Burr landed on the second team.
