  • Since 1970, readers of the Neosho Daily News have been helping the less fortunate through the paper’s Share Your Christmas program.
    This year, the Daily News staff decided to try to help our community’s elderly and infirm, so we are seeking donations for the residents of Medicalodge.
    While for many, Medicare and / or private insurance pays for much of the cost of services and room and board at a long-term care facility, little is left for life’s little extras. We are seeking donations of the following items:
    • Socks (both men’s and women’s), including donations of “gripper” socks. These have a raised plastic tread on the bottom;
    • Sweatshirts (all sizes and for both men and women).
    • Men’s flannel shirts (all sizes);
    • Ladies’ button down sweaters (all sizes);
    • Lotion;
    • Cologne for men;
    • Large print books, both new and used. “These are gold!” said Cheryl Compton, activities director at Medicalodge. “That and large print magazines, such as Readers’ Digest. Those are hard to come by”;
    • Picture frames for residents to place photos of loved ones;
    • Bed throws. While the nursing home has a large supply of lap robes, they are in need of throws for residents to put on their beds;
    • And one resident, a man, is in need of a jacket, size medium to large.
    Donations are being taken through 5 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Daily News office, 1006 W. Harmony in Neosho. Distribution will be on Dec. 20 at Medicalodge.
