  • The Neosho Lady Wildcats notched a big win in their belt on Thursday when they defeated Springdale Har-Ber, 58-57, at the Joplin Tournament at Missouri Southern State University.
Neosho remains undefeated with the win, pushing its record to 3-0 overall.
Down the stretch, the Lady Wildcats leaned heavily on senior Whitney Wise, and she stepped up to the plate in a big way by hitting seven free throws in a row in the fourth quarter — including the game-winner with three seconds to go.
    Wise finished with 14 points.
“She had a great game all the way through,” Neosho coach Lance Robbins said of Wise.
Another Lady Wildcat who had a big night was junior Chelsey Henry, who led all scorers with 23 points. Wise teamed with Morgan Rogers and the rest of her teammates to help slow Har-Ber’s Bailey Schalk, who finished with five points after averaging 26 points in her last three games.
“We did a very good job defensively,” Robbins said. They had a lot of points in transition, but our defense overall did a good job. Our offense moved the ball well and we were able to get the ball in the high post to Henry, and she did a good job with it.”
The Lady Wildcats opened the game with a substantial lead in the first quarter, but trailed 29-28 at halftime. The game was close the remainder of the way.
Rogers finished with eight points for the Lady Wildcats, while Addi Long added seven, Brooke Stauffer five and Skyelar Long one.
Jacie Higgins and Paige Redmond both had 11 points for Har-Ber, while Samantha Weber had eight, Carlye Bohannan seven, Cannon two, Caroline Hornor seven and Marleeya Montgomery six.
The Lady Wildcats take on Webb City at 8:30 p.m. tonight in the Joplin Tournament.
