Neosho students will be getting a couple of hours off on Fridays, starting next school year.

Dan Decker, superintendent of schools, said a recently approved school calendar for the 2014-2015 school year will let school out at 12:20 p.m. on Fridays. Decker said the extra time is to allow professional development for teachers. The calendar was approved by the Neosho R-5 board.

“There will be no extension to the school day,” Decker said. “We think this will help all the way around. The students benefit and it will help the teachers be better prepared for the classroom.”

Decker said the district will more than meet state mandates for classroom time.
