  • Postponed from April 12 because of the lack of blooms, the 53rd annual Dogwood Tour will be presented this Sunday by the Neosho Rotary Club.
Howard Birdsong, president, said Rotarians will man a booth at the north end of the Neosho High School Parking lot by the atrium between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., from where dogwood tourists may pick up a map that details both a city and a rural route where dogwood and red bud trees are in abundance.
“It takes you on Oakridge, that’s where a lot of them are,” said Birdsong, “around the hatchery, High Street, and elsewhere around Neosho, and also out in the county.”
He said free dogwood seedlings will be given to the first 100 people who stop by the Rotary booth, and added that the club will provide cold drinks as participants embark on their self-guided tour.
A new addition to this year’s tour will allow some of those who don’t have the means to travel to participate. Birdsong said the Rocketdyne Church of Christ has offered the use of one of their buses for the Senior Homes Tour.
“We’re going to pick people up at the Lane Apartments, and some other older folks who can’t get around and we’re going to give them a guided tour on the bus,” he said.
He said seniors who might be interested in taking the Senior Homes Tour may contact Ray Stipp or Earl Reynolds at Community Bank & Trust to see if there is still space on the bus.
Birdsong said the Dogwood Tour is a service project the Rotary club provides for the community to highlight some of the beauty of Neosho.
“We get people from outside of Neosho; they look forward to it every year,” he said.
