  • Jackson Parks took fifth place at No. 2 singles to help lead the Neosho boys’ varsity tennis team at the Republic Tournament on Friday. Neosho took eighth as a team.
    Parks lost his first match of the day to Hyde (Republic), 8-1, but bounced back with a win in the consolation semifinals over Hall (Forsythe), 8-1. He later defeated Partee (Clever) in the fifth place match, 8-5.
    Nathan Scribner took sixth at No. 1 singles. He lost his first match to Nacy (Republic), 8-0, but won in the consolation semis over Wilson (Clever), 9-7. In the fifth place match Scribner was upended by Coltharp (Carl Junction), 8-2.
    At No. 1 doubles, Dylan Thompson and Sebastian Henderson paired up and finished in eighth place. They lost their first match against Hamlig-Gerth (Forsythe), 8-0, fell in the consolation semifinals to Hanafin-Coram (Clever), 8-2, and dropped an 8-1 decision to Greenstreet-Sloniker (Carl Junction) in the seventh place match.
    At No. 2 doubles, Logan Merrell and Ian Cooley took eighth. They dropped their first match to Hillwock-Albright (Clever), 8-2, fell to Stauffer-Vanevery (Forsythe), 8-3, and were topped by Ogle-Golden (Carthage), 8-0.
    The Wildcats host Thomas Jefferson at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the NHS tennis courts in the regular season finale.
