  • Neosho High School product Morgan Rathmann is finding the same kind of success on the softball field in college as she did on the diamond for the Lady Wildcats.
Rathmann, a 5-foot-5 freshman outfielder for Missouri Western State University, helped lead the Lady Griffons to their first ever MIAA Tournament championship with a 12-0 victory over Northeastern State in Overland Park, Kan., last weekend.
An MIAA all-conference honorable mention selection this season, Rathmann was a big part of her team’s success in the tournament, as she went 6-for-11 at the plate with a triple and two home runs — including a two-run shot in the championship game.
Rathmann, the daughter of John and Connie Rathmann of Neosho, is a four-time all-district and all-conference selection, as well as a two-time All-Southwest Missouri and four-time Academic All-State winner.
Through 54 games, she currently carries a .333 batting average with four home runs, three triples, two doubles, and has 16 stolen bases in 17 attempts along with 21 RBIs. She also carries a .944 fielding percentage.
Rathmann and her teammates will face Augusta Univeristy (S.D.) in the first round of Regionals at Winona State University in Winona, Minn., on Friday.
