The investigation continues into the deaths of two people discovered near a residence on Route AA Thursday.

“About 2:30 p.m., dispatch received a call from motorist said that they were on AA highway between Gateway Drive and I-49 and that there were two bodies lying on the road,” Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland said. “When deputies got there, they observed a pickup truck and a passenger vehicle pulled off to the side of the road on Highway AA. There was a male body lying by the truck, and a female’s body lying by the passenger vehicle. Both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. We did recover a firearm. It appears at this point to look like a homicide-suicide.”

The pair have been identified as Ann Kelley, 69, and Edwin Kelley, 73, both of Neosho..

“I don’t know if they are divorced or estranged,” the sheriff said. “We are still checking into that. It appears that both had filed ex parte [orders] against each other, and they were known to the Neosho Police Department to have numerous disturbances and confrontations in the past year over divorce.”

Autopsies will be conducted Springfield today, the sheriff said.
